Quick facts

- Best for: Short-form social creators (TikTok, Reels, Shorts) who want templates, auto-captions and AI tools across devices, and who post mainly non-commercial content or check each asset's commercial-use mark.
- Website: www.capcut.com
What it does well
- One account works across mobile, desktop and web, with Pro benefits on all three — start an edit on your phone and finish it on desktop
- A usable free tier to start: free templates and basic editing tools, no credit card required
- A large set of AI tools built into one editor: auto subtitles, text to speech, background removal for images and video, noise removal, AI image and video generation
- Paid plans include generous storage: 1 TB on Pro, Ultra and Teams
Where it falls short
- Pricing is not transparent: the US logged-out prices are labelled 'for reference only' with the final price shown only after sign-in, the help centre says the Pro price varies by region, device and promotion, different accounts can see different promotional prices, and purchases generally are not refundable
- Many templates and library sounds are licensed for personal, non-commercial use only — brand or client work requires assets carrying the 'commercial use' mark, so each asset has to be checked
Verdict
A strong fit if you publish short-form social video and want templates, auto-captions and AI tooling in one place across devices. Check the commercial-use mark on every asset before using it for client work, and treat the published price as an indication rather than the price you will pay.
What our judgement is based on
Plan names, US logged-out reference prices, credit amounts, storage tiers and the metered AI video rates were read from CapCut's own pricing page; the cross-device Pro benefit and storage change were read from CapCut's help centre. The commercial-use restriction on templates and library sounds comes from CapCut's own licensing terms. We have not run a hands-on test of output quality, performance or support, which is why the rating stays null.
